How SWEDISH FALL's community solves fashion waste

Part of what makes the fashion industry so incredibly exciting is the way in which it continues to grow. However, the industry's high growth rates are only set to exacerbate the issue of mass overproduction within the industry.

So, what's going on in the fashion industry?

Fast fashion major players such as H&M reported to be ‘sitting on a pile of no less than $4.3 billion worth of unsold inventory’ in 2018 alone, making it easy to see why fashion contributes to 10% of the world’s carbon emissions.

According to Vogue Business, there are two key ways for fashion brands to become more sustainable:’ [Companies] are collecting unused fabric and finding places to sell excess inventory.’ Or, even better ‘brands can avoid overproduction altogether by using smarter trend prediction and fabric cutting tools’. At SWEDISH FALL, we’re proud to have always nailed the later approach, as a fashion-tech company that applies data science to tailor our collections to our rapidly growing +50k community. We invite our online community to design collections with us & in the process, we eliminate overproduction by 100% by using our community data insights to place highly strategic inventory orders.

Fashion should be about challenging the Status Quo.

How we try to solve it

At SWEDISH FALL, we’re proud to have always nailed the later approach, as a fashion-tech company that applies data science to tailor our collections to our rapidly growing community. We invite our online community to design collections with us & in the process, we eliminate overproduction by 100% by using our community data insights to place highly strategic inventory orders.

This tailored approach enables us to be highly reactive, to not only our community’s sartorial desires but also to consumer behaviors and shifts in trends. We’ve eliminated the guessing game of fashion (of which hasn’t been challenged for decades) by predicting our community’s favorite products with our unprecedented community data points, as opposed to a well educated guess, or simply gut instinct. Fashion feedback loops have traditionally been incredibly slow, contributing to the approximate 92 million tonnes of textile waste annually. However, our community members are invited to take part in surveys, quizzes and multiple other forms of feedback interaction, to constantly help shape the future of SWEDISH FALL. The best part? We give our community a voice and in the process, creative license to design the kind of activewear that they want to wear every day, whether that be to workout or to hangout with friends.

Fashion, after all, is a consumer-facing industry and consumers have the right to feel at the core of the design process.

Our hope at SWEDISH FALL is that other brands adopt this data driven but community focused approach, in a bid to become more in-tune with their consumers but crucially, more sustainable.
